Quinta Da Marinha Resort

The course has recently been used for a PGA Challenge Tour event, and despite its youth is a fantastic mature test. Set against the astounding backdrop of the Atlantic Coast, the course measures 6,419 yards from the championship tees, and is a terrific test for every player, be it the professionals or the average golfer.

The par-71 layout is undoubtedly a hidden gem of Europe, where you can enjoy an outstanding round of golf while you gaze over the rugged Atlantic coastline that makes Portugal's Western area so special.

Quinta da Marinha is a great place for some tuition, where the resident PGA professionals use the same technology that Tiger Woods utilises to streamline his swing.

In 2007 Quinta da Marinha hosted the best from the Challenge Tour as the venue of the Estoril Challenge de Portugal which was won by Surrey golfer Ross McGowan. McGowan's -12 total, which included a 66 in the final round, was good enough to claim the title and the 20,800 euro first prize.

Signature Hole: Hole 13, Par 4, 334 yards (White Tees), SI 8

While much of Quinta Da Marinha is threaded with beauty, boasting some stunning scenery of the Sintra mountains and the Atlantic Ocean, the 13th deserves a special mention. The luscious fairway rolls down towards the sea, before you are greeted with a green possessing some spectacular panoramic views. This picturesque par 4 is one of the most famous holes of Portuguese golf and it is to no wonder that the hole was used for many years to promote “golf in Portugal”.

The room was very nice and comfortable and clean. The location to the gold course was excellent with a driving range next door and a shuttle bus to the 1st tee. We decided to walk to the tee rather than wait for a shuttle which took about 10 mins.

The accommodation suited us well with 2 twin bedded rooms and a single room. The breakfasts at the Boutique hotel were excellent with a wide range of options to suit every taste. Bed linen and towels were changed on 3 occasions during our stay. We mostly ate in the Clubhouse bar which was very welcoming, reasonably priced and offered our party a sufficient range of culinary choice. All of our party thought the package excellent value for money.

We played for 3 days in March, following a some heavy rain leading up to the trip. We thought the course may be affected by the rain but we were pleasantly surprised with how good the course conditions were. We thought it was excellent value for money and we will return one day I'm sure.

The tee areas were dreadful, the markers had been there so long they were furrows in the tee areas. Teepegs everywhere.Faurways burnt to a crisp.. All the pins were at the front edge of the greens. Never go back

Over zealous starter was a bit OTT but onec we got going the pace of play was ok. The course was nice looking the greens were good, t boxes were below average and the fairways were alright. Would I play this again probably not.

Note - the pro shop closes at 7pm so any rounds with buggies is curtailed to get the buggies back. - so we ended up missing out on the last two holes

This is a course linked to a hotel comlplex so facilities are good. Course felt overplayed, tees and greens average at best.
