Having only opened in 2017, West Cliffs’ masterful layout has taken the golfing world by storm, becoming one of the top-ranked courses in Europe in a matter of months.
Located on the same site as the famed Praia D’El Rey Resort, only 1 hour North of Lisbon, West Cliffs shares some of Europe’s most impressive golfing real estate. With sweeping ocean vistas on nearly every hole, the course fits effortlessly into its natural surroundings. Rated as one of the best courses in Lisbon, if you get to play one course, make sure it’s this one.
With unobstructed views of the Atlantic, a round at West Cliffs Golf Course is one that few will forget. Spreading out across more than 200-hectares, the course sweeps between impressive sand dunes and natural Portuguese countryside to provide a golfing examination that's perfect for both professionals and golf holiday makers alike.
With a par of 72 matched by a yardage in excess of 7,000 yards from the back tees, the course is enjoys a host of great par-3's with the finishing par-4 17th and 18th holes amongst some of the toughest.
Designed by Cynthia Dye, the niece of legendary golf course architect, Pete Dye, is a course that has utilised the natural environment to create a memorable golfing experience. Cynthia went onto say about West Cliffs Golf Course “With the Atlantic visible from every hole, West Cliffs is the most natural golf course site imaginable. One of the most impressive characteristics of the course is just how anchored it is to the native coastal environment." Praise indeed and no surprise why so many travel here each year.

West Cliffs Golf Course already features in The Top 100 Golf Courses in Europe. It measures as a Par-72 just under 7,000 yards from the back tees but with a strong sea breeze, it more than plays it’s length. Fortunately with 5 tee boxes to choose from, it’s playable for all levels and handicap.
For golfers looking for a unique experience then West Cliffs is the course to play as the course combines the greenery of natural vegetation with sand dunes, and a variety of elevation changes to provide exceptional views of the Atlantic Ocean. One hole could be narrow, shadowed by tall pine trees and the next wide open with a strong sea breeze. It’s an incredibly diverse round of golf that combines the best of links and parkland, that certainly won’t be forgotten.
After your round, you can enjoy a drink or a meal in the stunning modern clubhouse which offers views across the course and towards the sea beyond. Regardless of how you’ve played, some time in the 19th hole at West Cliffs is sure to be a memorable experience.
West Cliffs is the perfect destination for those that want to play the best courses in Portugal and could be a particular favourite for those that enjoy links courses in the sunshine. Although, the Silver Coast in Lisbon doesn’t have the same amount of options as in the Algarve, it definitely has the quality as with the likes of the already acclaimed Praia D’el Rey and now West Cliffs neighbouring each other, it’s a destination that could match any in Europe.

Excellent course. Challenging but overall fair. Lively clubhouse and food. Best menu of all the clubhouses but not cheap. Expensive shop for buggy hire etc.

My favourite of the three, with some phenomenal green complexes, especially the second. Short game has to be very creative to get up and down here.

Probably the hardest course I've played - would help to have previous experience on it. Great condition and layout though, 18th is fantastic down towards the sea. Some big slopes on the greens made for an entertaining putting experience. Not for the faint hearted but loved it.

Great course but choose your tee carefully if windy ! We are an “older” group and played one day with trolleys which was a slog so would recommend booking buggies. Great food in the restaurant too.

The course is very difficult, especially for a higher Handicapper. It has a lot of unusual holes/layouts. The Par 3’s were mostly very short, which felt a bit odd. The speed of play was atrocious, largely because the group in front of us ( probably fellow YGT guests) spent more time taking photos than playing Golf.

What a great golf course. Great layout with some phenomenal holes. Great variations from hole to hole, with a fair amount of water and elevation changes. On top of that, the views were truly magnificent. if I was going to make one criticism, it would be that one or two of the greens were very undulating and unless you know where to leave your approach shots, they could make you look a little silly. However, overall it was incredibly enjoyable and will definitely be back.

We loved this golf course, with great views and interesting holes it made for a great experience. The only thing I can comment on was that bunkers were not raked and there were loads of pitch marks on the greens not fixed.
