Remedy Oak

Right, if you like your parkland golf properly polished, Remedy Oak is a belter. This is one of the most talked-about inland courses in the south, built through 256 acres of ancient woodland once enjoyed by Edward VI. It feels secluded, it's immaculately presented and it rewards the golfer who's happy to think their way round rather than just lash driver on every tee.

Remedy Oak has also proved it can stand up to serious competition as a past host of Open Championship Regional Qualifying, so it's more than capable of testing very good players. Add in regular mentions from the likes of Top 100 Golf Courses, Golf World and National Club Golfer and you get the picture. This is a proper championship test, not just a pretty walk.

If you're putting together a Bournemouth golf tour, it's a cracking change of pace alongside the area's heathland and coastal options. Expect tree-lined holes, heather and wild grasses framing the fairways and water hazards that ask an awkward question at just the wrong time. You can play it from 7,010 yards, but the four-tee set-up makes it workable for mixed-ability groups as well.

Needless to say, pack your A-game if you want to score, but even if you don't, you'll enjoy every minute.

Who is this for?

Golfers basing themselves around Bournemouth or the New Forest who want one 'proper' championship parkland round on the itinerary.

Who is it best for?

Confident ball-strikers and mid-handicappers who enjoy shaping shots off the tee, plus societies with mixed handicaps thanks to the sensible tee options.

Remedy Oak Golf Course

Remedy Oak stretches across 256 acres of ancient woodland, weaving through hardwood trees, mature conifers, heather and wild grasses, with water coming into play on eight holes. Renowned designer John Jacobs was captivated by the natural landscape from the moment he walked the site, and he's made full use of the terrain to craft a fascinating and thoroughly enjoyable challenge.

The par-72 layout measures 7,010 yards from the tips, but with four tee options on every hole, golfers of all abilities can find a length that suits their game. That flexibility is one of the course's great strengths. It's a genuine championship test from the back tees, yet still enjoyable from the forward markers.

Course designer John Jacobs has created a masterpiece that winds its way through the woodland with real variety and intelligence. Tree-lined corridors and subtle elevation changes mean you'll want to pick targets carefully and commit. Water comes into play on eight holes, so there are a few tee shots where position matters more than length. You'll need to think your way around, placing tee shots carefully and managing your approach angles, because the course punishes wayward shots without being unfair.

Remedy Oak is ranked inside England's top 50 golf courses, and once you've played it, you'll understand why. From the first tee to the final green, this is a high-class golfing experience that combines beauty, challenge and strategic interest in equal measure. Include Remedy Oak on your next Bournemouth golf break and let us build the rounds and tee times around it.

Absolutely stunning all round. This course is definitely one of the very best in the UK.

To be fair to the course, the weather conditions (very wet) didn’t allow us to see it in its best light. We enjoyed it but had to switch our intended second round there the next day as the course was closed following more overnight rain. However…..this turned out to be a blessing in disguise. YGT were efficient and relocated us to Isle of Purbeck at short notice and that turned out to be a VERY GOOD THING. See next review.

Great Course but with over 3 miles in total walking between green to next tee, it made the round quite slow as weather was in 30’s I would recommend buggys
