The par-72 course has an illustrious history, as in 1982 its official inauguration saw Seve Ballesteros, Jack Nicklaus, Isao Aoki and the then reigning Open champion, Bill Rogers, play a competitive four ball. Aoki won with a round of 69 and all four scorecards can still be viewed today in the Sports Bar entrance. A round at Old Thorns then, will see you walking in the footsteps of the game’s greatest players.
Signature hole- No. 5: Par 4, 357 yards, SI 14
From the elevated tee, Old Thorns' 5th hole gives spectacular views over the beautiful Hampshire Countryside. However, there is a much greater reason for the hole's signature hole status. The par 4 also provides much in the way of risk reward and at 357 yards from the tee, it is tempting to drive the green. Though, with a narrow fairway this may stir a thought in your mind as to whether to play a safe iron down the fairway. A magnificent hole, leaving a great feeling of anticipation before a shot is even played!

We visited as a group of 8. The welcome was good and registration process was very easy. We stayed for 2 nights and had 2 rounds of golf and throughly enjoyed the whole experience. We did push the boat out at dinner on the first night, which resulted in a rather hefty supplement but the food and service was excellent, and it was our choice to do so. Breakfast was also of a very high standard. It was buffet style and all requirements were catered for.

The Hotel is incredible.. extremely well presented a feast for the eyes.It was a delight to see so many families using the facilities & not just groups of golfers were ever you looked.rooms are big clean & comfy breakfast was hot fresh plentiful & covered all dietary requirements..The staff were warm welcoming polite and attentive. I bought 20 golfers here for my Captains away day the package “yourgolftravel” put together was perfect for all our needs from cost per person facilities available for all to use and although the course was a little boggy in places this is to be expected in February in the UK.. it was a delight to play. The greens held well and ran fast. Would recommend buggy hire as some of the walks between holes will certainly get your daily step count in… some of my group myself included are already planning on bringing our partners here in the summer so we can get to injoy this course at its best while the ladies will no doubt indulge themselves in the spa.. Thankyou Old Thorns for making my last act as Club captain such a memorable one for all…🙏🏼🏌🏽♂️⛳️

The day began with meeting Steve The Starter, who made us welcome and took us through the rules. A very nice man who later on the second day, found us in the bar and spent time with us, listening to all our woes but still managed a smile! The course is tough in places, but fair. The greens were very fast but true and receptive to a good approach shot. There were a couple of slightly non discript holes but that did not detract from the beauty of the majority of holes and the huge enjoyment we all had on the course and some of the views were stunning. We were all really pleased we had chosen Old Thorns as a venue.

Most people will require a buggy, but buggies have too stay to footpaths so end up walking more to ball and cart,very hilly

Lovely course. Our round was spoilt by the noxious smoke caused by bonfires right near the tee boxes. Halfway house could have had some veggie options.

As we were good players the greens were very important. They were very good. The course was testing but fair so I would describe it between average and hard. The weather really helped so 3 very enjoyable rounds.

Was a bit wet when we went but can imagine it being nice in the summer months. Can’t use woods/driver on the range. Starter was friendly. Pace of play good. Greens had just been sanded so I think we picked the wrong weekend . Would go back

Although a little boggy this is to be expected in February… what a delightful and pretty looking course.From the very warm & friendly welcome from their starter… who gathered my group of 20 players and explained to all what we will expect out there and where to grab course information during our game he kept a tight schedule allowing each group a comfortable amount of time to enjoy every hole..being the middle of our winter you would expect to play off mats but this wasn’t on every tee.. we can’t wait to get back here in the summer and experience this incredible course in all its glory.. you can easily see that from most of the back tee’s this course will show you its teeth and humble the most accomplished golfer with ease.. When the leaves are back on the surrounding trees you will feel like the only golfers out there giving you privacy and obstacles on every hole.. The works currently being carried out do not interfere with your round and will certainly enhance your experience on this wonderful course in the very near future… Huge thanks and praise to The Old Thorns golf club for providing a very memorable time had by each and every one of my group…🙏🏼 You will 100% being seeing us again as I can guarantee this will become an annual fixture in our clubs dairy. The Sports bar provides the perfect facility to unwind after your round with a superb selection of beers great bar food & sports on the many tv’s… few laughs a round the pool tables too.. I can’t recommend the Atrium bar enough, beautifully laid out extremely comfortable and the perfect way to end the day ( somewhat much later than expected).. the staff are very adapt in handling some very tipsy golfers and guided us all off to our beds safely after an incredible day…🙏🏼🙏🏼

What a course! The green keepers here really know what they're up to! They've worked tirelessly to keep this course playing so well given the amount of rain we've had! Can't be faulted in anyway! Really lucked out with the weather during our stay and we're able to enjoy to full rounds. The greens were impeccable considering. Many thanks to the team!
