La Zagaleta Golf Club

Excellent See all 40 reviews

Located high in the Benahavís hills, La Zagaleta is more than just a golf destination; it is an atmospheric retreat into one of Europe’s most prestigious enclaves. As you ascend the winding mountain roads, the air cools and the scent of wild herbs and cork oak replaces the humid buzz of the Costa del Sol.

This is a sanctuary where the silence is only broken by the crisp strike of a ball or the distant call of a hoopoe. The estate serves as a masterclass in blending high-stakes architecture with the raw, rugged beauty of the Serranía de Ronda, offering a sense of seclusion that is impossible to replicate elsewhere in Marbella.

Home to two stunning golf courses, the Old Course (a members only layout) and the New Course. La Zagaleta is the pinnacle for those who find the crowded courses of the "Golf Valley" too frantic. It is ideal for small groups of discerning players or couples who want to combine world-class golf with the absolute peak of Mediterranean privacy.

Who is it best for?

An individual who values discretion and the finer things, seeking an environment where luxury is felt through service rather than just gold leaf.

A player who relishes dramatic elevation changes, tight fairways, and the requirement for surgical precision over raw power.

A visitor who appreciates mountain solitude, wildlife spotting, and the ability to dip into the glamour of Puerto Banús before retreating to the clouds.

Golf Courses at La Zagaleta Golf Club

Old Course

The Old Course, a 1991 masterpiece by Bradford Benz, underwent a meticulous redesign by Marc Westenborg to sharpen its teeth while preserving its natural soul. It is a layout that demands respect; the fairways meander through deep valleys where the cork trees stand like silent sentinels.

Precision is the currency here, especially when navigating the undulating greens that are kept in tournament-ready condition year-round.

New Course

The New Course offers a starkly different but equally compelling challenge. It feels more intimate, carved into the hills with a focus on shot-making and course management.

The transition between holes provides panoramic vistas of the Mediterranean, while the signature bunkering and clever use of water hazards ensure you are mentally engaged from the first tee to the final putt. The firm, fast-running turf provides a consistent surface that rewards the "cerebral" golfer who knows when to attack and when to play for safety.

A unique and unforgettable experience - each hole was a new discovery, with breath taking vistas. This is a course that rewards a tactical strategy- it is not long, but challenging. What an experience that will live long in my memory.

This is not an enjoyable golf course It’s not about how difficult it is it’s about playing on a course that’s been designed to get the best out of players. This course had far to many blond holes, to may tees where you had to carry the ravines over maybe 150 yards then play your next shot blind as the green was still not in sight! In saying that, the fairways were mint and the green’s excellent. The welcome at the cours by armed guards was a little unnerving

Set in the hills and its real target golf with club selection crucial from each tee. Enjoy the challenge.

Great tee boxes with panoramic views. So much fun, trying not to leave down hill putts.

A hard but absolutely stunning course. Almost all shots were across ravines and every hole had something interesting about it. Staff were fantastic and we were treated very well indeed.

As a group we can not put in to words how good this place is! From the dive down to the course to the beers on the balcony after we are looked after and cared for by the staff. The course is by far the best course I have ever played with 18 utterly stunning holes that we could only describe as works or art. This is not a course for beginner golfers with lots of long carry’s over caverns and water but you could play your worst game there and still feel like it’s been the best day of your trip.
